Back to school ready in 2023

Students collect their bags outside the classroom.

We know that the start of the school year can be both an exciting but demanding time for students and their parents.

We've put together a list of tools and resources to help your family get ready for the new school year.

Back to school hub

The Back to School hub is helping families get back to school ready in 2023 with information,  practical articles, checklists, tools and ebooks.

Find out about back to school tips for families, download fun activity sheets to complete with your child, read about our health and wellbeing resources, or download a handy planner for the year ahead, and more.

Getting ready for school guides

Whether your child is starting Year 7 or preparing for the HSC. We know that, at every stage, it’s important for students and parents to feel supported, enthusiastic, and prepared.

That’s why, to help students and their parents prepare for 2023, we’ve created a starting school guide that is now available to read online or download the PDF. In the guide, you’ll find helpful information on topics ranging from the things students will need on their first day of school to the reasons why consistent school attendance is so important.

View the guide relevant to your child:

Term 1 key dates and calendar

  • Eastern division schools - Term 1 for students begins on Tuesday 31 January.

  • Western division schools - Term 1 for students begins on Tuesday 7 February.

Visit our calendars web page for information on the school calendar for public schools in New South Wales, including dates of school terms, school holidays, and other important dates such as parent-teacher interviews and public holidays. You can also download the school calendar in PDF.

Every primary and secondary school student in NSW is eligible for three $50 vouchers, totaling $150, to help pay for school supplies.

To find out more about eligibility and to apply, visit Service NSW or visit a Service NSW Center in person. Vouchers are valid for use by 30th June (end of Term 2).
